The Great Gatsby Chapter 9 Reaction

That was a very interesting way to end the book. I really liked how Fitzgerald did it. One thing I was wondering why Nick told the story two years after it ended, why not earlier. I thought it was very sad how only a few people came to Gatsby’s funeral. It was kind of sudden when Nick decided to move back to the Midwest because he felt that the people in the south had empty values. I think I would move back too if I were Nick. I thought it was weird that when Nick broke up with Jordan, she said she was engaged. I’m guessing she was cheating on Nick with her new fiancĂ©. When Tom told Nick that he was the one to tell George whose car killed his wife, which made me really hate Tom because I really liked Gatsby. I thought it was weird how on his last night before he moved to Minnesota, Nick went to Gatsby’s empty mansion. Well I guess he was trying to remember good times from when he was in West Egg. I really liked how Nick compared Gatsby’s dream to finding America and the green light near Daisy’s house to the green land of America. It was a very good metaphor in my opinion. Overall the book The Great Gatsby was pretty good even if a little hard to read at times.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 8 Reaction

As always there is a lot that happens in this chapter. When Gatsby was waiting outside of Daisy’s house for a long time, which to me felt like a stalker and something you would get a restraining order for. I can’t believe that Gatsby can’t see that he doesn’t have a whole lot of a chance with Daisy anymore. She has learned so many bad things that Gatsby has done. I just don’t understand how Gatsby really wants to stay and try to win her over. It made no sense to me when Gatsby, who had never used his pool, suddenly wants to take a swim. It feels like to me that he just liked the idea of having a pool and needed a reason to keep the water in it. It was really weird how when George Wilson saw the eyes of the docter and thought that they were Gods, and then he basically went crazy and was going to kill the erson who killed his wife because that person is obviously the person she was cheating with. That seems very crazy and illogical to me, he can’t know that for sure, it is just out of blind rage. When he deduces that it must be Gats =by and goes and kills him, I thought that that was just a lovely scene (sarcastically). I can’t believe that George just shot Gatsby in cold blood.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 7 Reaction

As always a lot of things happen in this chapter. When Daisy’s baby was brought out, I was surprised because there had been no previous mention to her baby that I can remember. When Tom and Gatsby argue, I felt that Gatsby could have and should have said a lot of things to win the argument. Also that I’m not sure where Tom got his facts, I don’t really trust him. I thought it was very stupid of Tom to send Gatsby and Daisy alone to Long Island because they have a past that Tom doesn’t know about. It was horrible to find out that Myrtle had been struck by a car. I felt even worse when I read that it was fatal and that Myrtle was dead. It was very brave, stupid and romantic that Gatsby was going to take the blame for the hit and run that Daisy had committed. When Gatsby tells nick to go and check on Daisy and he finds her and Tom eating cold fried chicken. I was wondering one why they were eating the chicken cold and why was Nick creeping around their house. It would have been pretty easy to go in and ask them how they were doing. I mean They don’t know that Nick had talked to Gatsby.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 6 Reaction

In this chapter I learned a lot about Gatsby’s past. I thought he had a very interesting past. I felt really bad when I read that he had to do janitorial work just to pay tuition for college and even worse when because of it he dropped out only after two weeks. When Gatsby was working on Lake Superior and swam out and meet Dan Cody, which was very awesome for Gatsby. I thought it was very interesting how Gatsby had to watch Cody when he was drunk and that is how Gatsby became a non-alcoholic. When Cody died and left Gatsby 25,000 dollars but Cody’s mistress prevented Gatsby from getting it, that made me really hate the mistress, why wouldn’t she let a poor person like Gatsby have that money? It was all good in the end because Gatsby made it lifelong goal to become a wealthy and successful man which was awesome because he accomplished just that. I thought it was kind of funny how when Gatsby invites Tom and the Sloanes for dinner but they refuse and then ask him for dinner, they don’t really mean it, and he accepts. When Daisy left and Gatsby was sad because she was unhappy and he wanted everything to be like it was in Louisville, I didn’t like how Gatsby was living in the past, if he loves Dasiy he should find a way to make her happy now and forget what it was like in the past.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 5 Reaction

Gatsby puts a lot of information into each chapter, which could be good and bad. It was scary that Gatsby hid near Nick’s house to tell him that he wanted to have tea with Daisy. That seems wrong and a bit stalker like to me. When Nick says yes I was surprised to read that Gatsby offers to basically pay him. It was very weird of Nick to refuse his offers. It feels weird to me because today it seems like people will do a lot of things for money. Why did Gatsby send someone over to cut Nick’s grass in the rain, that can’t be good for the Gardiner. Something else that happened that I thought was weird was when Gatsby took a walk around the house in the rain. I wonder why he took the walk. I thought it was funny how Gatsby told Nick that the meeting was a bad idea and 30 minutes later Gatsby and Daisy are extremely happy. To me it seems weird when a person idolizes a woman because then she is his whole life,  that person could lose so much because of it. It must have been really awkward for Nick when he realized that Daisy and Gatsby had forgot that he was even there. Overall this chapter was very interesting and I learned a lot more about some of the characters.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 4 Reaction

Again in this chapter there were lots of things that went on. I thought it was funny how Nick didn’t believe Gatsby when he told him the story of his past, and Gatsby showed him the picture and the medal as proof. That made me think, who carries around a war medal with them? I didn’t really understand when Gatsby got pulled over for speeding and showed the officer the white card and the officer let him go. What did the white card say and where can I pick up mine? I thought that it was interesting to learn that Gatsby’s money might have come from crime. I wonder what kind of crime it could have been. Cool, we get to find out what Gatsby and Jordan talked about at the party; they talked about how Gatsby is in love with Daisy, who also fell in love with him during the war. That was very interesting considering that she was and still is married. It was also interesting to learn that Gatsby wanted Nick to set up a reunion for them because he is scared she would say no. Gatsby was planning to come to Nick’s house for tea and force Daisy to see him. That is smart, but it is also devious. Overall in this chapter I learned a lot of interesting things.

The Great Gatsby Chapter 3 Reaction

In this chapter there were some interesting things going on. To me the way he described the party was weird; the words that Fitzgerald uses to describe things in this book are not modern so it is harder to understand for me. When Nick got invited to one of Gatsby’s parties I thought it was a very kind gesture. When Nick got there he felt uncomfortable because he didn’t know anybody, I know I would have felt the same way if I were Nick. The things that the people speculated on how Gatsby got his money were just kind of rumors, and those are really bad rumors at that. That made me wonder how did Gatsby get his money? It was very interesting the way that Gatsby doesn’t socialize with the guests and how he doesn’t drink. When Jordan emerges from her meeting with Gatsby I was wondering what he heard that was so interesting, I really wanted to know! Nick leads a very interesting life with the way he described his everyday life. It was just insane to me how Nick new that his girlfriend, Jordan Backer, was a dishonest person, I don’t get how he could do that. Overall, this chapter was a very interesting even if it was sort of confusing to read.
