Fredrick Douglas

10/4/10- I think the purpose of the two letters of introduction to the biography of Fredrick Douglas is to introduce some of the information about the book. I also think it was to talk a little bit about him and his background. Another thing it talks about is why Fredrick Douglas is writing this book and some other things about him. The letters talked about why other people thought Fredrick Douglas wrote what he did, and had some inserts from the book. They compared parts of the book to some other books and said why they did that.
My reaction to the first chapter of the book is that the life of a slave is very hard. A lot of horrible things where done to and seen by slaves. The slave holders where just awful to their slaves and I though that what they did was horrible. I could not imagine that happening now, nor happening any time in the future. I can't believe the things the slave drivers did to the slaves. I also thought it was horrible how they separated the children from their parents at such an early age, and then gave them to a complete stranger to raise them. Then they never get to meet their parents and that is just awful. That would change my life so much if it happened to me. I could not imagine a life without my parents, they have just done so much for me. Only a few of the slaves ever got to meet their parents, and if they did it was probably short and or at night. The children usually didn't get to do that many times because there parents died from lots of different things. They rarely learned of their parents death untill a while after it actually happened.

  1. I agree with you that the letters were a type of introduction to the narrative. I enjoyed your writting style and the way you worded it was just excellent
