I liked how in this chapter he says that he is finally going to be free, that is awesome because of how much it meant to him. I really hated how his master would sometimes give Douglas back only a few sense because of the way it made Douglas feel. I really liked how Douglas started out his plan of escaping by making his master unsuspicious of his intents, that's pretty smart. I thought that the decision to run away would be an easy one for him to make, but it wasn't because he had lots of friends that as he put it "I loved almost as much as my life", and that he could also fail. If he failed he could imagine the horrible things that would happen to him. I would have a hard time deciding if I had all of those factors to worry about. I thought it was really sad how he felt when he got to New York, how lonely he felt like he could trust no one, and had nothing. I thought it was very interesting how Frederick got his last name from a book and also after a lot of trial and error. I think I would feel the same way Douglas did when he went from slavery to being free, confused. I really liked the way he felt about his first job, probably like us when we get our first job and can do what we want with our money. I thought it was awful what kind of work he had to start out doing because of prejudice people. I thought it was awesome how Douglas felt when he went and spoke at an anti-slavery meeting in Nantucket, it made him feel even more free. Overall this was may favorite chapter because Douglas is finally free.

Hi Brad,
ReplyDeleteI liked the insight and the emotion you put into your blog. There could have been more detail in your writing. I liked how you included the decsion he had to make and what it might be like to leave all your friends.
