In the first part of the book there were lots of things that happened. I thought that it was very nice how they didn’t let anybody go hungry, including dogs. It didn’t matter who came, they left happy, and that’s awesome. I thought that it was cool how the younger people danced different from the older ones. I really thought it was unfair how when they got hurt it meant they lost their jobs and had to work in very harsh condition. It’s crazy how they have this ceremony that lasts for three or four hours in which all of the men dance with the bride. Afterward they pay the bride for it, it usually ends up being $200 to $300. It’s unfair how some people who work all day don’t even make that in one year. I thought it was mean and unfair how Marija made the orchestra keep playing even though they were exhausted. It was also mean and unfair to the guests how Marija made them keep dancing even though they were exhausted. I really hated how the saloonkeepers cheated people by overcharging them and how the customers couldn’t go to the law because the saloonkeepers stood in with the politicians. It was really nice and awesome how Teta Elzbieta loaned Mrs. Jukniene money to keep her from losing her house. I can’t believe how long the festivities lasted, they lasted until at least two in the morning. I thought it was unfair how Ona couldn’t get the day after the wedding if, even without pay and how if they are only a few minutes late they get docked an hours pay. It is also unfair how if they even later than this they lose their job. There were a lot of things in this part of the book that where unfair.
