The jungle reaction-chapter 4 and 5

In chapters 4 and 5 a lot of things happened to Jurgis and his family. I think it is very sad how he could only make about a dollar and a half a day. I don’t think it is right to have the children work at 12 or 13, they should work at least 15or 16 at the earliest in my opinion. It was nice how optimistic Anthony was about not yet having a job, but how he would get one another day. It was very awesome for all of the family to try t o work together to afford a home. It was very efficient how they divided up the monthly payment amongst themselves. I thought that the person who was selling them the house seems very untrustworthy, he avoids certain questions and I think he lies about the others. I noticed that back then it was much easier and cheaper to buy a house over renting one, today it is the same but different because we have so many more options. It was unfair how the rich and powerful could take advantage of less fortunate than them. I thought it was very smart of Jurgis to get another lawyers opinion on the matter of the deed of his house to make sure that they weren’t swindled. I really liked this part of the book because the immigrant family now owned something and felt proud of it. Also there were some good and some bad things that happened.

  1. Brad,

I like how you are thinking about the topic and making connections to the current real estate market. What happened to chapter 6

  2. Dear Brad,

You analyzed the reading and put in your thought into it which was great and you talk about the issues. You could have described the good and bad things and give it more explaining
